JEWELLERY

Mailys Horemans

Based in Paris but deeply attached to Spain, Maïlys finds endless inspiration in Mallorca, the island she holds close to her heart. Her passion for jewellery and fashion, nurtured during five years of study, gave her the confidence to launch her studio, Pepí, in the summer of 2020. She named her brand after her grandmother and her Spanish cousin Pepi, who was a jewellery designer.

With pepí, she set out to create a radiant, glamorous beach brand inspired by the Mediterranean, effortless elegance, and sun-soaked escapes.
Her wish is to bring you that endless vacation vibe through golden chains, shells, pearls, bold colors and rhinestones — so you feel carefree, radiant, and as if summer never ends.

What is your discipline and when did you first encounter it?

I’ve known since I was a teenager that I need something creative in my life. As far back as I can remember, I’ve been making jewellery — it began with my mother, then with my cousins during long summer days. Over time, this playful passion grew into something more meaningful.During the 2020 lockdown, the idea of starting my own brand came to me, and I decided to go for it!

What was your journey to becoming an artist?

That’s a difficult question, and not an easy one to answer. I don’t really consider myself an artist — I simply know that I love art. I often wish there were 36 hours in a day instead of 24, just to have enough time to explore everything I’m passionate about. I’d love to learn how to paint, to work with ceramics, and to get back into photography. Maybe one day I’ll fully embrace the title of artist. For now, I follow my curiosity and let creativity guide me.

Who are the key artists whose work inspires your own?

I’m not inspired by any one artist in particular. My creative inspiration comes mainly from nature — especially the sun, which to me represents the very essence of life, and the sea, which brings me a deep sense of peace.

I also find inspiration by revisiting memories of family holidays on the Costa Brava in Spain.

Tell us about your studio?

My studio is my living room in my apartment in Paris — at least for now!

Who's on your dream dinner party guest list, and what do you serve?

My dream dinner would be with my family and closest friends, gathered around a beautifully decorated table styled by the incredibly talented Dolli Taylor. The food would be easy to share — like tapas, Lebanese, or Italian dishes.

And if I had the chance to invite a few special guests, I’d choose Meryl Streep (I’ve always dreamed of meeting her), Gigi Hadid (who I absolutely love), and Ella Fitzgerald (who I listen to often).

The vibe? Joy, sharing, and true togetherness.

What's a film you watched and book you've read recently that had an impact on you?

Honestly, with two young kids—almost 4 years and 3 months—I don’t have much time to read or watch movies. But my mom lent me a short book she loved, Les Rescapés by Émilie Berger-Pierron, and I plan to read it when I get a chance.

If you weren't an artist, what would you have been?

I’m lucky to be self-employed and to work in fashion alongside my jewellery brand!
Especially with an agency called OBO that produces fashion shows.
I love fashion shows; we run all over backstage, and I always feel there’s a bit of magic in it. I’m also lucky to work with fantastic and inspiring people. Event planning isn’t always easy, but I love it because it’s challenging!

What is your star sign and do you believe you embody it?

I love this question, I ask it all the time! I’m really into astrology!
I’m an Aries with a Gemini rising—I’ve got the strength and drive of an Aries, plus the curiosity and creativity of a Gemini!
